The movie tells the story of Dr. Bennett Omalu, a Nigerian doctor and brilliant forensic neuropathologist who discovers the true harm of concussions, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and fights to share his research with the world.

Omalu was the first doctor to publish findings citing a link between American football and CTE.

“Hollywood was the very first establishment that extended a helping hand to me when I was bruised, battered, lying out in the cold”, Omalu said. “As players become aware I would have hoped that the information for him would have him play the game in a way that was more protective of himself”.
In a telephone call to the AP on Thursday, Omalu angrily defended his work and attributed the criticisms to “people historically who have made a systematic attempt to discredit me, and to marginalize me”.

But the new complaints are not from the league, but from fellow researchers who say Omalu is claiming credit he doesn’t deserve.
Researchers are still working to understand the exact way that CTE develops, but it is a process that seems to involve many factors, including microscopic damage to brain cells that occurs from repeated head trauma. “Present it as a disease; package it”, he said, explaining that he had taken a class in business school where they discussed how to create brand equity.
In 2011 Duerson, 50, who was diagnosed with CTE, killed himself by shooting himself in the chest so his brain could be studied the Boston University School of Medicine.
At the time of Webster’s autopsy, though, the disease had been known and known by that name for decades.

Omalu examined the brains of former Steelers Mike Webster (played by Philly’s David Morse), Terry Long and Justin Strzelczyk, and found them full of toxic proteins that cause dementia and other symptoms. Any athlete with a brain will acknowledge that there is an inherent risk of serious injury involved in EVERY sport.
“That’s when it started taking traction, when it was noted in professional football players”, said Barry Jordan, the chief medical officer for the New York State Athletic Commission and an Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at Cornell’s Weill Medical College. There have been so many reforms, we’ve taken the head contact out of football, I think about as much as we can. “It isn’t that anything’s wrong or falsified”, he said.

· For example, on the part of the National Football League, many believe there could be more sensitivity shown to the players, rather than to potential profit and perhaps meditation and empowerment programs could be offered for the players to make them more self-aware of their choices, intentions and feelings.
