University of Southern Mississippi Celebrates Record-Breaking Freshman Class

The Mississippi University for Women reports enrollment of 2,696, down 20 students from a year ago.

During the 2015 academic year, the total enrollment was 93,833.

The biggest percentage growth for Arkansas colleges appears to be at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Additionally, the six-year graduation rate (2009 first-time, full-time freshman class) has increased to 49.8 percent, the highest in more than a decade.

The campus in Fayetteville has enrollment growth of nearly 2 percent.

“We extend very heartfelt greetings to all our students”, said Keenum. “I think the numbers are a great indicator of progress”.

The numbers include students enrolled at the University Medical Center in Jackson. “Our students are interested in studying everything from Polymer Science to Dance and in making a difference both here at Southern Miss and after they graduate”. “These historic numbers underscore Mississippi State’s reputation for preparing our students to succeed in life”.

3,033 freshmen. A total of 15.2 percent of the new students are from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Mississippi Public Universities are seeing the largest fall enrollment on record.

Keenum also pointed out that the university is enrolling a record number of new transfer students with 1,858 enrolled. MSU’s overall African American enrollment is 19 percent. “As always, this success is due to the hard work of faculty and staff who are committed to providing the best possible education for all of our students”.

Freshman ACT scores remain among the highest the school has ever seen at 26.7.

UCA previously reported a almost a 0.5 percent increase, UALR stands at 1.2 percent growth, and ASU in Jonesboro grew by 2-percent. Michigan Tech offers more than 130 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in engineering; forest resources; computing; technology; business; economics; natural, physical and environmental sciences; arts; humanities; and social sciences.
