Specially-trained officers had also been present at the start of the party, conducting body searches and using metal detectors on all patrons entering the nightclub. A man and woman were killed, with one pronounced dead at the scene and another victim dying at the hospital.

Toronto Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly said the attackers had little regard for bystanders.

Police consider there could possibly be extra victims at different places and urged residents to contact authorities. But the successful event has now been marred by the news of a shooting that took place at the official afterparty.

We send our prayers and condolences to the families of the victims in both shootings. Three others were hospitalized.

The shooting began inside the venue and spilled out onto the street as club-goers fled the scene.

“We’re satisfied at this point that the organization involved was doing their best and this did occur at approximately 3:30 a.m.as things were shutting down for the evening”.

Sloly said police officers were within metres of the initial shooting. The party happened at Muzik nightclub, a popular spot for locals.

Just a year ago, a man was shot outside of Muzik after the very same festival, according to The Guardian.

A man and woman are dead and three people seriously injured after an early morning shooting during the OVO Fest after-party in and around the Muzik nightclub on the CNE grounds. The nightclub distanced itself from the shooting, saying: “This unfortunate incident occurred some distance away from our premises at 4am, long after Muzik had closed”.
