Unreleased South Park game found on an Xbox debug unit

In case you’ve forgotten, South Park is getting a new game called The Fractured But Whole, due for release sometime next year.

A very, very incomplete prototype of a game set in the South Park universe has been discovered on a Xbox debug unit.

Of course, as any video game history buff will be able to tell you, such a game did not ship at all – which means it never made it store shelves.

The game was supposedly being developed by Buzz Monkey Games, but one thing or another happened, leading the company to never finish the product.

So it’s basically South Park meets Simpsons Hit ‘N Run or Grand Theft Auto. The objective of the level seems to echo the classic South Park episode “Up the Down Steroid”, spawning Cartman in front of a chalk board that reads “Find retard costume” and “Get on short bus”, but attempting to grab the level’s objective will cause the alpha to crash. The guys behind the HappyConsoleGamer YouTube channel documented the process behind acquiring the development kit and showed off gameplay clips in the 10-minute video above. It features the South Park kids exploring a virtual city filled with worded placeholder textures, open road driving, and even a combat test section in which Eric Cartman beats up wild dogs.

Despite none of us ever truly knowing how this Xbox South Park Game would have been received, fans probably came out better with the more recent titles anyhow.
