Adding, that he was stabbed by a man who shouted “Allahu Akhbar”, and that his injury seems not to be serious.
The victim has been named locally as “Mr Levy”.
The unnamed spokesman said the victim, who was wearing “clear exterior signs of his religion” at the time of the attack, was not seriously injured.
The attack sparked fears France has fallen victim to another Islamic terrorist attack – although this was later ruled out.
Some initial reports said that the assailant suffered from a history of mental illness.
So far, the prosecutor has only confirmed that a man has been arrested, without releasing further details regarding the case.
The attack took place in the north of the city close to Brasserie des Vosges.
Strasbourg, which is home to the European Parliament, is home to a large community of Jews, with around 15,000 living in or near the city.
