Sources privy to the development in the case said the Centre has shown reluctance in handing over Rajan to Mumbai police soon fearing for his life.

The accused said that they had assembled in Allahabad to finalise their plan before leaving for Mumbai. As the aircraft has special air clearances, it would take about 5-6 hours from take-off before Rajan lands in Delhi.

Chhota Rajan is expected to reach India on Wednesday night from Bali, as all flights from the island city were cancelled on Tuesday night, due to volcanic ash concerns. Rajan, who was arrested in Bali on his arrival from Australia on October 25, is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, Chhota Rajan’s nephew in Mumbai underwent tests at a hospital, to check if he can be kidney donor to his ailing uncle, Midday reported. But the call, as to who will be given custody of Rajan, will be taken by CBI and the Central Government.

All cases against Rajan may be clubbed and assigned to a single court.

Following the questioning, Rajan is likely to be shifted to a special cell of the Delhi Police.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had been making claims about bringing underworld don Chhota Rajan to Mumbai, today said a decision about his custody will be taken in consultation with the central government. Delhi Police has got six cases against him. Mumbai Police came saying there is a warrant against them. “Delhi government taking note of that should do justice to me”, he said.

He said that Ejaz was an active member of Chhota Rajan gang. The arrest was made on a tip off from Australian police that 55-year-old Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Mohan Kumar alias Chota Rajan, the powerful aide-turned-rival of terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, has flown from Sydney to Indonesia’s popular tourist destination Bali, a place he frequents to visit a hotel belonging to his aide Anil Chandra. In the absence of an extradition treaty, Indian authorities have already provided documents to their Indonesian counterparts about his Indian identity to facilitate his deportation.
