County fire Capt. Mike Lindbery tells KNX news radio that oil has poured into a deep arroyo called the Prince Barranca and it could flow to the beach.

Firefighters were working to stop the flow to prevent it from leaking into the ocean.

A Crimson Pipeline employee reported the incident to the state’s Office of Emergency Services at 5:50 a.m., according to Amy Norris, spokesperson for the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR).

The Crimson Pipeline-operated line did not rupture and the oil did not leak at full pressure, company spokeswoman Kendall Klingler said during a Thursday press conference.

In April the Ventura County Grand Jury recommended that the county compile an annual report that would provide as a single-source document that would overview the current status of all Ventura County pipelines. All but 15 barrels of oil were recovered, but the spill caused $3.29 million in damage, according to the PHMSA data. Several hazmat teams also responded to the scene.

“The spill happened near Aera property, and we have offered our assistance to Crimson”, Pollard said.

Plains All American Pipeline LP was indicted for that spill, which was attributed to pipe corrosion.

The spill came 13 months after more than 120,000 gallons of oil spilled on the coast of neighboring Santa Barbara County.

An oil spill that released thousands of gallons of crude oil was discovered Thursday in Ventura
