Up to 7 new ‘Power Rangers’ films in the works, Lionsgate says

Lionsgate’s first Power Rangers movie is still a year away, but the studio is putting a lot of faith into the franchise performing well for it going forward.

The studio told analysts today that they hope to do as many as “five, six or seven of them”, when asked about future Power Rangers movies, an ambitious plan when you take into account how everything from Ender’s Game to The Divergent Series has failed to take off. As such, it’s looking toward the long term by potentially creating up to seven Power Rangers movies, which seems preposterous to me when we don’t even know if the upcoming reboot will even be any good.

Earlier this month, the film’s director, Dean Israelite reflected on the new Power Rangers story – which will star singer Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger and RJ Cycler as the Blue Ranger – saying their new uniforms will express “metamorphosis”. We could see us doing 5 or 6 or 7 of them.

“We are really, really excited about the Power Rangers movie”.

The story will essentially re-imagine the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” – featuring a group of American high school teenagers who are given access to alien tech in order to help save the world. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet.

You’re set for life, since Power Rangers shown no sign of stopping on TV. We’ll have to wait and see if Lionsgate does in fact move forward with multiple Power Rangers sequels, but if this reboot becomes a hit with moviegoers, anything is possible.
