Five live bombs were recovered from nearby railway tracks, but junior Home Minister Kiren Rijiju said reports the attackers were holding people hostage inside the police station appeared to be false. “How can the country accept this?” “Had it done so, its flip-flop on terrorism would not have been there”, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. “Our government will never allow such a shameful situation again”. And the action began when he finished, as many opposition lawmakers trooping into centre of the House or the wall. “This is very unfortunate”.

The Opposition members countered that the rules didn’t allow the minister to make a speech beyond the statement, either. Kharge, barely heard over the din, told the Speaker she was losing members’ respect.

Shinde’s statement came in the backdrop of the claim by Union Home minister Rajanth Singh who said the government’s fight against terrorism got weakened after the use of the word by the UPA government.

In the Rajya Sabha, the opposition drowned the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement on the Gurdaspur attack in their noisy slogan shouting. The demand was turned down by the Chair. “We all welcomed, clapped (Singh’s statement)… because the country is one and there is no compromise on terrorism and unity and integrity of the country”, Kharge said, refuting Singh’s charge that the Congress was making it appear that Parliament was divided on terrorism.

Asked about the all party meeting which has been convened on Monday to break the logjam in Parliament, Mr Azad said, the government is not interested in running Parliament. In the Lok Sabha, opposition members put up placards and moved near the speaker’s podium.
