Update Includes New Disappearing Videos, Messages

The first new feature is live video for Instagram Stories, which is pretty self-explanatory.

The update has yet to reach all users, but when it does you’ll find the new live video option by swiping right in the Stories camera mode. Swipe right on a live video to see more, or go to the search page to discover who’s live right now. If you don’t want any comments, you can disable them. But some people feel more comfortable sharing photos and videos in Instagram, which offers a more curated experience (and less political crap) than Facebook’s free-for-all of a News Feed.

The company also announced that you’ll be able to send disappearing photos and videos to friends through direct messages.

Disappearing Photos and Videos for Groups and Friends in Instagram Direct Now you can send disappearing photos and videos directly to groups and individual friends. And in case you are wondering, disappearing messages will notify you when someone takes a screenshot of the message – just like Snapchat does. Now you can also send photos and images that’ll disappear from your friends’ inboxes after they’re viewed.

Shilpa Sarkar, Instagram’s product manager, called the live video function an “inevitable step” for Stories. Please note, you can only send disappearing photos and videos to people who follow you.

Access to Instagram Direct can be had by tapping on the paper airplane box.

After wildly profitable but often controversial debuts on Facebook and Twitter, live video is coming to Instagram. The person you send it too will now have a badge with a blue ring on it.

Instagram is kicking off the holiday week with two major feature introductions to its apps.

Instagram will allow you to broadcast the video to your followers live i.e. they can watch it only while you are streaming.

Users can also create a group with a just tap on the “New Group” feature on the top right.
