Uproar in Ahmednagar after brutal rape, murder of minor

The 79-year old anti-corruption crusader said that in recent times, people have been campaigning against the capital punishment for criminals in the name of humanity.

The girl was brutally raped and killed by three men at Kopardi in Ahmednagar last week. When asked about the delay in arrest of the three accused in the case, director general of police Praveen Dixit denied that there was any laxity in police action. “There have been increasing incidents of rape across the state from Kolhapur to Nagpur, and now Kopardi”. The victim is survived by her parents, an elder brother and a younger sister.

The flesh from all over her body, including her genitals, were torn. “The post-mortem has revealed fractured bones and internal injuries that led to her death”.

The incident took place on July 13, when the teenage girl was returning after meeting her grandfather. Anxious search parties found her bicycle, and later her mutilated body in a nearby farm.

The victim was accosted by Jitendra Shinde, Santosh Bhaval and Nitin Dhailume, who gang-raped her before throttling her to death.

Police have been stationed in the locality to ease tensions, after furious locals held a road blockade and other protests to demand the arrest of the rapists.

While the government had already announced that the case would be tried in a fast-track court, legislators were demanding that the punishment be meted out within six months to send the right message to the society.

The Congress leader said.

“We have a chief minister who also holds Home portfolio. The Maharashtra government wakes up when media creates a hue and cry.it clearly shows that law and order situation has broken down in Maharashtra”, she told ANI.

“Guardian minister and senior police officials visited the village. He should immediately take moral responsibility and resign”. He is seen to move with alacrity on Twitter, whether putting down Pankaja Munde over the water summit in Singapore or defending minister Ram Shinde when his picture went viral with a purported rape accused, but he did not react on the gruesome rape for three days. The victim was a kabaddi player and had represented the school in the district level.

The protesters booed Minister of State for Home Deepak Kesarkar when he visited Kopardi village on Sunday and threw eggs at him.
