Urban Cookie Collective’s Diane Charlemagne dies from cancer
Charlemagne featured on Goldie’s 1994 hit Inner City Life, which climbed to number 39 on the singles chart, and was also heard on his 1997 track Kemistry.

In 1993, Urban Cookie Collective had a massive hit with their track The Key The Secret.
Diane Charlemagne passed away this morning after a long struggle with cancer, DJ Goldie confirmed on Twitter. Strings come courtesy of ex-Elbow and I Am Kloot’s Jote Osahn, making this a real Mancunian tour de force.
He added, before posting a link to InnerCity Life: “I cant thank you enough for what you contributed and we will carry on your legacy, your voice became the.”
Charlemagne passed away “surrounded by her family after losing her fearless battle with cancer”, her representative announced.

Charlemagne’s final single, “It’s In Your Eyes”, is due for release on 20 November The track features former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke and former Fall drummer Simon Wolstencroft.
Charlemagne had quite a storied career that saw her involvement with many different music acts, ranging from Manchester R&B group 52nd Street in the 1980s to Eurodance outfit Urban Cookie Collective and drum and bass producer Goldie in the 1990s.

Critical Music boss Kasra, Alexander Nut, Etherwood, High Contrast and Ministry Of Sound are a few of those paying tribute to the singer.
