Urban Meyer: ‘I have no interest whatsoever’ in any other job

Campaign season is underway in a critical College Football Playoff battleground state as Ohio State starts making its case to be included in the four-team field.

Meyer has been facing speculation that the Cleveland Browns may make a huge play to bring Meyer to the National Football League, but the Ohio State coach felt the need to shoot down that speculation.

So what gives with the statement? Having full control over the roster would probably be a drawing card offered by Browns’ owner Jimmy Haslam, but Meyer effectively has that now in Columbus with job security Haslam has not given his head coaches.

“My information is that Haslam and Meyer have a personal relationship, dating to Meyer’s time as coach at Florida and Haslam as the chief benefactor at Tennessee”.

“I can’t speak on other people’s wins and losses, but I know as we stand, Ohio State, here today, I feel like we are one of … the top four teams in the country”, Barrett said. “I think that’s a lot of what they need to see”.

In a short statement issued through an Ohio State spokesperson to the Columbus Dispatch, the Buckeyes coach reaffirmed his commitment to the program, which won the national championship last season under Meyer.

If Barrett could be called to testify on Ohio State’s behalf, his message would be straightforward.

However, Meyer wouldn’t be the first coach to say he was going to do one thing, while turning around and doing another.
