PM Modi said India’s development goals are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“At G20, we can play an effective role in supporting the multilateral goals of increasing research and development to develop affordable renewable energy”.
The prime minister said that BRICS has proved its relevance and value through its actions, when earlier its logic was being questioned.
In the past one year, the Indian government has announced a host of measures to improve ease of doing business, to streamline taxation and to further liberalise the FDI policy, among other steps.
Modi, who reached Antalya late last night from London after his three-day visit to the United Kingdom, tweeted he would “meet world leaders and discuss global economic and security issues”.
The Bank, which the BRICS countries see as an alternative to the World Bank, is to have its capital expanded to $100 billion within the next couple of years.
The Summit of leaders from 20 top economies of the world, being held at a time when the global economic growth is slowing down, is expected to be attended by US President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese President Xi Jinping, among others. “We express deepest sympathy and support to Russian Federation for the loss of life in Sinai”.
A few world leaders including Modi are also likely to voice concern over delay in implementation of the quota reform of the worldwide Monetary Fund (IMF), aimed at giving more voice and voting power to the emerging economies as well as providing a pitch for cutting transaction cost for transferring money from overseas. “It aptly describes the ethos of our group”, Modi said.
“We are united in condemning the barbaric attacks in Paris this week; and, the recent bombings in Ankara and Lebanon. Combating it must be major priority for G20”, he said.
