Uri angered nation, culprits won’t be spared: Modi

In his first public address after last Sunday’s deadly attack by terrorists from across the border, Modi said yesterday in Kozhikode that India will mount an all out offensive to isolate Pakistan diplomatically to expose its activities in exporting terror, killing of innocent people and spilling blood.

She said the timing of the resolution and Uri attack should be noted as they were part of a design to divert attention from the grave situation in the IoK.

In an interview with Indian newspaper, Pakistan’s High Commissioner Abdul Basit said we have nothing to do with the Uri attack. Pakistan denies the charge. She said, “Instead of finding a long-term solution to the problem, our prime minister is distracting people by making such speeches”.

Apparently referring to the spike of tensions between Pakistan and India following a recent attack on Indian troops in the Uri sector of IOK, Premier Sharif warned the worldwide community against ignoring the dangers of Indo-Pakistan tensions.

“There is one nation in Asia whose aim is to spread terrorism and is working toward ensuring that the 21st century does not belong to Asia”, he said, referring to Pakistan. “There is sorrow and deep resentment in the country”, Modi said.

He said terrorism was an important challenge for both countries that could be met more effectively if they cooperate rather than blame each other all the time.

Modi exhorted the people of Pakistan to eschew the path of violence and work to eradicate social ills such as poverty and unemployment.

A forceful and peaceful freedom movement is going on in Occupied Kashmir these days, which has drawn attention of the entire world; therefore, any such attack does not benefit Pakistan or Kashmiris. India and Pakistan have fought two wars over control of Kashmir since they won independence from British colonialists in 1947.

According to a release issued by the Punjab government, the British High Commissioner said, “Like other countries, Britain also wants easing of tension between Pakistan and India. I want to ask the Prime Minister that India should retaliate against Pakistan in a similar manner”, said slain Uri braveheart Sepoy Dinesh Geri’s widow.
