Uri attack draws condemnation from around the world

India has directly accused Pakistan of involvement in the raid on Sunday by four militants on an army base in Uri, near the “line of control” that divides Kashmir between the two nuclear powers.

Army spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia said soldiers also intercepted two large groups of suspected rebels that had infiltrated into the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir from the Pakistani-held portion.

Besides the arms and ammunition recovery, two mobile sets were recovered from the four terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group and two Global Positioning Systems (GPS).

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has strongly condemned the recent dastardly terrorist attack on an army base at Uri in the Indian state of Kashmir on Sunday, saying the attack has deeply saddened her.

Both gunbattles were continuing and one soldier had been killed in the fighting, an army officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

A GPS, Pakistan made energy bars, weapons with Pakistan markings were recovered from the Army camp where the attack took place.

Pakistan’s Role Evident: Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh called an emergency meeting of top defense officials and blamed Pakistan for the attack.

Restraint – of the kind India showed after the November 2008 terror attack in Mumbai, or after the assault by militants on an air base in Punjab in January – would “betray inefficiency and incompetence”, the leader of Modi’s party said.

The protests, and a sweeping military crackdown, have all but paralyzed life in Kashmir.

“Pakistan has been continuously stabbing India in the back, be it Samba, Kathua, Gurdaspur, Udhampur, Pathankot and now Uri and we are tolerating all this without doing anything”, a protestor Pardeep Gupta said.

Tens of thousands of people have died in the fighting, majority civilians.

India has already expressed concern over the CPEC project that passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The militants were also killed in the attack.
