Uri threatens to usurp BJP’s pro-poor agenda

The three-day BJP National Council meeting, which starts on Friday here and coincides with the birth centenary of party ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay, is likely to decide to reach out to marginalised sections, especially OBCs, besides raising the Uri terror attack, which left 18 Armymen dead and triggered an outcry for punitive action against Pakistan.

But, political turmoil in Kashmir valley and the most recent attacks on army base in Uri has provoked BJP’s core support base that seeks an aggressive policy against Pakistan. A special function is also being organised to mark the centenary year celebrations of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay who was elected as the Jan Sangh president in Kozhikode in 1967. “Every Indian wants that the Indian government must expose Pakistan at the global level”, said Thakur while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the BJP’s different meetings here.

Kozhikode: A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first public speech since the Uri attacks took place, the ruling BJP gathered here for the party’s national council meeting assured that the Uri-Pakistan matter will be taken up at the meeting of the party’s top leaders as it is an “important issue” in the country at present.

“After all, it is our leadership that got the cadres to undertake “Tiranga Yatras” across the country not long ago to assert our government’s nationalistic policies”, said another BJP participant’s explaining his expectations from party’s National Council.

On Saturday, Modi will address a public rally on the Calicut beach. They will also discuss a strategy to deal with Pakistan in the wake of the Uri terror attack.

But while he spoke of “Integral Humanism”, Ram Madhav also underlined that the BJP will address “concerns about the situation in the neighbourhood”.

“We are a party of grassroot workers”.

The incident has also triggered a diplomatic dust-up with both India and Pakistan hitting out at each other including at the UN General Assembly. “We understand and appreciate the sentiments in the country”, he said.

The BJP leader pointed out the diplomatic steps being taken at different global fora to isolate Pakistan on terrorism while asserting that strategic and military actions are not articulated through political speeches. He said, “Do you want statements or action. there will be action. aap dekhtey rahiye (you watch out for it)”.
