In the American League’s meeting of divisional leaders, Texas established a big early lead and shut out Cleveland.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Corey Seager, top left, hits a solo home run as Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jason Hammel, bottom, watches along with catcher Willson Contreras, top right, and home plate umpire Larry Vanover during the first inning of a baseball game, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, in Los Angeles. All in all, the younger Seager is blossoming into one of the game’s finest at the tender age of 22. He pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking four and striking out two. It was a stark contrast to his previous outing against the Cubs when he gave up six runs in five innings, including three homers. Utley threw Zobrist out from his back, earning a point of congratulations from the outstretched right arm of Norris.

In the first Ian Desmond and Carlos Beltran singled with one out and both moved up a base on a pitching balk.

The noise was for Bryant, whose two home runs Friday gave him 35 for the season. I’ll back the red hot Cubs here…

In New York, rookie Gary Sanchez kept up a most remarkable run, homering for the third straight game to help the Yankees rout Baltimore. I still don’t really know what the Dodgers plan with Urias has been.

Colorado’s Charlie Blackmon hit two home runs, including the go-ahead shot in the 11th inning, to power the Rockies past Washington 9-4. He’s already exceeded the 6.4 WAR that Sammy Sosa put up when he hit 66 home runs in the 1998 season, and although he won’t catch Rogers Hornsby’s 10.4 WAR from 1929, he’s poised to lay claim to having one of the best all-around individual seasons in team history.

NL MVP Bryce Harper was ejected in the 10th after getting called out on strikes. He won his debut Tuesday at St. Louis with 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Jason Heyward extended his hitting streak to six games with a single to center field in the second.

“Huge”, Maddon said of Hayward’s hit.

After a 1-2-3 second, Hammel ran into trouble in the third, allowing a leadoff double to Andrew Toles, a single to the pitcher Urias, and an RBI single to Chase Utley that gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

Mets 12, Phillies 1: Yoenis Cespedes hit a three-run homer, Kelly Johnson had a pinch-hit grand slam and Noah Syndergaard pitched two-hit ball over seven innings for NY.

Detroit stars Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez were ejected, along with manager Brad Ausmus and hitting coach Wally Joyner as the Tigers lost 3-2 against the Los Angeles Angels. Additionally, he as struck out 46 batters in 43 1/3 innings. Martinez was tossed after about 30 seconds, but continued the debate.

Foltynewicz (7-4) struck out six and allowed five hits and a walk.

ASTROS 6, RAYS 2: Rookie Alex Bregman homered and had three RBIs to back seven solid innings by Dallas Keuchel and lead the Houston Astros over the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 on Saturday night.

At Milwaukee, pinch-hitter Gregory Polanco had a tiebreaking three-run double and Pittsburgh rallied from four runs down to beat Milwaukee.

PADRES 1, MARLINS 0: At Miami, Ryan Schimpf homered, Clayton Richard pitched seven innings and San Diego beat Miami to snap a four-game losing streak.

Reds 13, Diamondbacks 0: Anthony DeSclafani threw a four-hitter, and Scott Schebler homered twice for Cincinnati.
