Urias struggles in second start as Dodgers lose to Cubs 7-2

The key American League fixture saw a Mookie Betts-led Boston win at Baltimore to open a three-game lead on the Orioles in the East. Arrieta looked on track for yet another win when he pitched seven scoreless frames, but got no support from the offense as Dodgers starter Scott Kazmir and two relievers stymied the Chicago hitters throughout.

The Dodgers were limited to one hit or fewer for the first time since Chicago’s Jake Arrieta no-hit them last August. The Cubs won the last game 2-0, continuing a six-game winning streak. All of that changed in the seventh, as he lost command and walked the bases loaded before striking out pinch-hitter Justin Turner with his 28th pitch of the inning. It was enough of a concern that the Dodgers have prohibited the pitcher from swinging a bat most of the season, but he’s been swinging more of late.

The Cubs gave Hendricks all the support he needed after managing just four hits over the previous two games. “He had really good command”.

The odds for Chicago and Los Angeles are even, while the Over/Under (O/U) is unavailable as of now.

Cubs starting pitcher Jason Hammel had to leave Monday’s game with the Dodgers after experiencing right hamstring cramping before the start of the third inning.

NATIONALS 4, PHILLIES 3: Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer and tiebreaking two-run single, Tanner Roark threw seven sharp innings and the Washington Nationals held on for a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Brad Ziegler allowed one hit in the ninth and got his franchise-record 38th straight save, his 10th this season.

“I think it’s truly Travis Wood’s day”, Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. “He’s got a wipeout slider”, Maddon said.

Christian Yelich had a tie-breaking RBI single in the seventh, J.T. Realmuto had three hits for the Marlins and A.J. Ramos pitched a shaky ninth for his 16th save. The other start in that span was a lacklustre loss to the Cubs in which he lasted only 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs. For the season, Kazmir has a 4.38 ERA, 1.21 WHIP with 67 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings. The Cubs’ 7-2 win Sunday pushed their run differential to +131 on the season, more than twice that of the second best differential in the NL (+51 by the Nationals).

Cardinals 6, Brewers 0: Matt Carpenter had four hits and scored three times, Carlos Martinez pitched eight innings, and St. Louis won easily in Milwaukee.

RANGERS 9, INDIANS 2: Nomar Mazara hit a three-run homer, Ian Desmond had a two-run shot and the Texas Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians.

So with Hammel out, the Cubs turned to Travis Wood, and he simply saved the day.

Bolsinger (1-2) fanned six in five innings. Chase Utley led off with a single, Seager reached on an infield single and the Gonzalez would single into left to score one.
