Hood was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, officials said.
Hood landed in the Gold Coast near Schiller and Lake Shore Drive and witnesses said his body was limp and that he clipped a building. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
“Corey told our team what kept him going in that fox hole is if I can make it through wrestling practice, I can survive this”, said Fetzer. “It was terrible”.
Chicago Tribune’s Sarah Freishtat, Marwa Eltagouri and Greg Trotter contributed.
A decorated 14-year Army veteran and home town hero is being honored all over Greater Cincinnati and the country after he died in a skydiving accident in Chicago Sunday.
Hood collided with another skydiver during a performance by parachute teams with the Army Golden Knights and Navy Leap Frogs, AP reported. His name has not been released.
“Our focus right now is on supporting Corey’s family and grieving for our teammate”, said Lt. Col. Matthew Weinrich, commander of the parachute team.
His biography says that he has been in the Army for years and had also received some awards: two Bronze Stars and two Meritorious Service Medals.
According to his profile page on an Army website, Corey had served five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and logged more than 500 free fall jumps.
RIDGECREST, Calif. – An 18-day manhunt in central California ended when two deputies opened fire on a man who pulled out a handgun during a confrontation on a rural road, authorities said Sunday.
“At about 2,000 feet as soon as the plane flies over, we’ll throw out these wind drift indicators”, he told WHAS-TV about the jumps.
“It looked like he was going to land on our building”.

“It’s changed in time and just like with anything else with technology, things get more advanced”, Hood said of the evolution of parachutes.
