On Wednesday, two young Palestinians, aged 19 and 21, shot at a bus from their vehicle in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighbourhood of northern Jerusalem, police said.
Israeli police forces arrived on the scene and shot dead the Palestinian she said adding that Israeli forces closed the area for investigation.
File: Vanderbilt graduate student Taylor Force was killed Tuesday, March 9, 2016 in a terror attack in Tel Aviv- Jaffa.
In the lead-up to a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Vice President Joe Biden took a swipe at Palestinian officials Wednesday over the fatal stabbing of an American student, saying the US condemns those who fail to denounce such violent acts.
“Let me say in no uncertain terms, the United States of America condemns these acts and condemns the failure to condemn these acts”.
He was reportedly shot dead by police as he fled.
A spokesperson said the Palestinian attacker had stabbed the Israelis while running along a path near the port.
“We have taken many steps in recent months to fight Palestinian terrorism, and we’re taking even stronger measures now”, Netanyahu told journalists after his meeting with Biden.
“The United States stands firmly behind Israel’s right to defend itself, as we are defending ourselves”, Biden said.
The U.S. vice president spoke warmly of his decades-long relationship with Netanyahu, and reemphasized America’s commitment to Israel’s security.
Under heavy security, Biden made an unannounced stop on Wednesday along with three of his grandchildren and his daughter-in-law at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City. Police engaged the two gunmen in a gunbattle.
Israeli authorities first attributed his injury to the assailants, but said later they were investigating whether it was the result of police gunfire. “I just came to speak with a friend”, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who joined him at the news conference.
Israeli police also stated both of yesterday’s attackers from the West Bank had entered into Israel illegally, and did not possess any special travel or work permits.
