Police raided an apartment in Elizabeth hours later, apparently in connection with the bombing in Manhattan. The lawsuit was terminated in 2012 after Mohammad Rahami pleaded guilty to blocking police from enforcing the restrictions on the restaurant. The city was fighting the claims.

The Rahamis charged in the lawsuit that they were targeted by neighbors because they are Muslims.

James Sarnicki of the Linden Police Department told reporters that one of the officers approached the suspect and when he woke him, he saw that he had a beard that resembled that of the man on the wanted poster. He was conscious when he was taken away in an ambulance. There are unconfirmed reports he was shot in the process of being taken into custody, but not seriously wounded. He says he’s spoken to the governors of New Jersey and NY and pledged all needed federal assistance.

The arrest came just hours after police issued a bulletin and photo of Rahami, a naturalized United States citizen from Afghanistan with an address in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Officials had said over the weekend there were no confirmed links to worldwide terrorist groups.

Bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, was captured yesterday following a shootout with police officers and has since been charged with five counts of attempted murder of a police officer, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful objective. The official was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation and requested anonymity. His last known address was in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Rahami was shot Monday in an exchange of gunfire with police in Linden, New Jersey. One officer’s vest was struck, and the other was shot in the hand.

Caldwell reported from Washington.

David Patton, head of the New York City federal public defenders office, asked to meet with Rahami. They say he let local bands practice in the back of the restaurant, and gave them free food. He says the president also expressed appreciation for the work of first responders.

Surveillance video indicates the men allegedly located a piece of luggage on the sidewalk, removed an improvised explosive device from the luggage and then left the vicinity.

– A generous man chose to show his support for first responders following the explosion in Chelsea, New York. An explosion in Manhattan on Saturday injured 29 people. One of the devices exploded as the bomb squad was using a robot to disarm the contents, but no one was injured. No one was injured but the race was canceled. He says Obama will comment publicly “relatively soon”.

The New York explosion was determined to have been an “intentional act”.

Elizabeth, N.J., Mayor Christian Bollwage said suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, a naturalized USA citizen of Afghan descent, was taken into custody following a shootout in nearby Linden. He is a naturalized citizen from Afghanistan.

“What we didn’t know yesterday, and we don’t know yet, is: Is anyone taking credit for it and is it linked to worldwide terrorism?”

Police also discovered an explosive device in Manhattan shortly after and just a few blocks north of the explosion in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood Saturday night.

Five people were pulled over Sunday night in a vehicle associated with Rahami but were questioned and released, Sweeney said, declining to say whether they might later face charges. The discovery of Tannerite may be important as authorities probe whether the two New York City devices and the pipe bomb at the Jersey shore are connected. The NYPD tweeted Monday morning that authorities were seeking Ahmad Khan Rahami.

“We want to get this guy in for questioning”, de Blasio said on CNN. Cuomo said on “CBS This Morning”.

With Rahami’s arrest, officials said they have no indication there are more bombs or suspects to find, though they cautioned that they are still working to understand Rahami’s connections.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said as investigators gathered information, they learned there were “certain commonalities among the bombs”, leading authorities to believe “that there was a common group behind the bombs”. Where in New Jersey was the bomb?
