US beats France 86-67, advances to women’s basketball final

The U.S. has won at least one medal in the men’s shot put in every Summer Olympics with the exception of three: 1936, 1976 and 1980, with the nation having boycotted those 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

Five-time defending champion United States reached the Rio Olympic women’s basketball semi-finals with a 47th consecutive Games victory Tuesday while Australia’s run of five consecutive Olympic medals ended in tears. We know when to support, when to yell to a teammate, when to say the right things. It would be a dream for us to beat them. “I think we still don’t think we know what we have done here, but for sure we don’t want to stop here”.

The 7-foot Gasol, who recently signed with the San Antonio Spurs, has been a mainstay in La Roja’s lineup since his first senior appearance in 2001, leading them to the 2006 FIBA World Championship and EuroBasket titles in 2009, 2011 and 2015.

Also, the USA women’s 4×100-meter relay team stayed on track for a medal, getting through on their second chance after re-running their race on their own because Allyson Felix was bumped making a handover in the preliminaries.

“We didn’t get on top of them and we struggled with throwing away the ball”.

It is now or never for Spain as this is their best in beating the Americans.

Neither did the U.S.

So what makes this USA women’s team so dominant?

Joyce will be, too, particularly if he is allowed to continue doing it as coach.

Australia’s heartbreak in team sports has continued with our women’s basketball team going town 73-71 to Serbia in a nail-biter that went down to the last second of play.

The two teams know each other very well, as they met in the knockout phase of the 2012 Olympics (a 66-59 win by Spain), and have over a dozen current and former National Basketball Association players between the two rosters – a few of whom are either current or former teammates.

“I would have taken par and ran to the clubhouse”, Lewis said.

Age hasn’t slowed Spain down, either. “This is always the hardest game”. “Sometimes it’s the pressure, sometimes it’s whatever it is, but we click again”. Australia squad played in Group A, which ranked second. So the Spanish arrived in Brazil a little more disjointed than precise, but that’s over with now.

“I think they chose to play basketball, and when they decide it’s hard to stop them, at least in one-on-one”, French center Isabelle Yacoubou said. “We need to focus on the opportunity we have rather than the opportunity we lost”.

Scoring: Spain is fifth among all teams in Rio, putting up 74.1 points per game, while shooting a respectable 43 percent from the field, good for sixth in the tournament. Still, both have looked very strong at times, Spain blasted Lithuania away by 50, and the French fell to the U.S.by just three. “I’m going to be excited about watching them”. Other people are making comments. “We still have one more to win”. Krzyzewski added. “They show up and show up big time. It just would have been awesome to take them to the next round”.
