Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said earlier: “Out of abundance of caution, the US Capitol and Capitol Visitor Center are on lockdown while USCP investigates a report of a person of interest”.

“While the building is under lockdown, people are prevented from entering or leaving the Capitol Building and the adjacent visitor’s center”, The Hill wrote.

A House Democratic staffer said the sergeant-at-arms office had said there was a woman with a gun in a tunnel leading to the Rayburn House office building. No one is permitted to enter or exit until directed by U.S. Capitol Police.

Police were searching for a suspect, possibly armed, but have yet to release further details.
