US election: Donald Trump’s convention speech and ‘the truth’
Donald Trump will officially accept the Republican presidential nomination Thursday night, bringing a close to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Election opponent Hillary Clinton and other Democrats are to blame for numerous nation’s ills, Trump said, and “the problems we face now – poverty and violence at home, war and destruction overseas – will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them in the first place”.
Still, he set aside much of his usual bravado. As the crowd, fiercely opposed to Clinton, broke out in its oft-used chant, “Lock her up”, he waved them off, and declared, “Let’s defeat her in November”. These people, who feel left out, have been blindly supporting Trump.
Stan Lockhart, a former state GOP chairman, said he finally decided he could vote for Trump during Thursday’s speech, “when he looked us in the eye and said, ‘I’m going to work for you, ‘ and he laid out so many things he would do”.
“I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves”.
He accused Clinton, his far-more-experienced Democratic rival, of utterly lacking the good judgment to serve in the White House and as the military’s commander in chief.
Trump’s speech will close out a four-day conclave in Cleveland that exposed continuing divisions among Republicans over their nominee at a time when they need to unite for a looming battle against Democrat Hillary Clinton in the run-up to the November 8 election.
Chris Christie, who first endorsed Trump at a rally at the Fort Worth Convention Center, spoke Tuesday night, delivering a withering indictment of Hillary Clinton and unequivocal support for Trump. “Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored”, he said, blaming illegal immigration for what he said was a rise in crime.
Mike Pence’s speech accepting the vice presidential nomination took place outside primetime because Cruz ran well over his alloted speaking time and thoroughly eclipsed Pence’s moment in the sun.
He was introduced by his daughter Ivanka who announced a child care policy proposal that the campaign had not mentioned before.
Ian Bremmer, a political analyst, told Al Jazeera before the speech that there were many Americans who believed that the U.S. got “very little out of American allies”, and Trump’s statement appealed to them.
Trump had hoped the four-day Republican convention would bolster his support among GOP leaders and win over skeptics. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) addressed the convention.
This new wealth will improve the quality of life for all Americans. “And Donald Trump comes along with the package”.
“Middle-income Americans and businesses will experience profound relief, and taxes will be greatly simplified for everyone”, he will say according to the excerpts released by the campaign.
“As long as we are led by politicians who will not put America first, then we can be assured that other nations will not treat America with respect”, he is planning to say.
This, in turn, will create millions more jobs.
In the months after that, he managed to constantly make inflammatory remarks against women, Muslims, Mexicans, foreign countries, belittle his opponents by calling them “Lying Ted”, “Little Marco” and “Crooked Hillary”, and still plowed through all the controversies that ensued.
Other than a small group of people who have suffered massive and embarrassing losses, the party is VERY united.

Yet he also accused her of “terrible, bad crimes” and said her greatest achievement may have been avoiding prison for her use of a private email and personal server as secretary of state.
