US Expects More Syria Aid Deliveries, Question Mark over Truce
The Syrian government has accused the US-led coalition – which has been bombing ISIS in Syria for more than two years – of carrying out an “intentional” strike to support ISIS in the area.

You are reading news and information on LongIsland.com, Long Island’s Most Popular Website, Since 1996. Aid delivery to Aleppo is part of the U.S. -Russia cease-fire deal.
The uncertainty cast doubts on a U.S.
An opposition activist who witnessed the attack said at least eight vehicles were destroyed together with the Red Crescent’s regional aid depot where they were parked.
ICRC said in its statement on Tuesday that the dead include a member of the Syrian Red Crescent.
“Our outrage at this attack is enormous”, said Staffan de Mistura.
Three days later, Kirby reaffirmed that the United States “will continue to support the – those moderate opposition forces – those moderate forces, I should say, because they’re not – it’s not just about opposition – it’s not really about the opposition to Assad, it’s about the fight against Daesh”.
Jan Egeland, head of the United Nations humanitarian task force for Syria, tweeted that there were “many killed and injured” in the strike.
“It is outrageous that it was hit while offloading at warehouses”, he added.
O’Brien, the United Nations humanitarian chief, said there is no excuse “for waging war on courageous and selfless humanitarian workers”, and warned that if they were deliberately targeted “it would amount to a war crime”. Rebels reportedly hold the area. Russian Federation has said that the U.S. is failing to keep its part of the bargain, stating that militants are using the truce to prepare a large-scale offensive, particularly in Aleppo.
The week-old cease-fire had brought a brief respite to at least some parts the war-torn country.
“Syria’s army announces the end of the freeze on fighting that began at 7:00 pm on September 12, 2016 in accordance with the US-Russia agreement”, the statement said.
Earlier in the day, Kerry told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that the truce was “holding but fragile”.
A spokesman for the State Department, John Kirby, released a statement on Monday saying the U.S.is “prepared to extend the cessation of hostilities”, and noting that the cease-fire was negotiated between the US and Russian Federation, which has yet to comment. “The Russians made the agreement”.
Kerry overcame skepticism of other administration officials to hammer out the ceasefire, gambling on cooperation with Russian Federation despite the deepest mistrust in decades between the Cold War-era superpower foes. That was to be set up after seven days of reduced violence and sustained aid deliveries to Aleppo and other areas.
The cease-fire applied to all armed groups in Syria, with the exception of the Daesh terrorist group and the Nusra Front, which recently changed its name to the Fateh al-Sham Front.
“Air raids by Russian and Syrian warplanes, which haven’t stopped, suggest the truce never started in the first place”, he said.
Aid deliveries to the besieged eastern districts of Aleppo, a key point in the truce agreement, have not reached their destination.
Moscow was willing to work on a deal with Washington meant to suspend if not completely halt fighting in Syria since Russian officials assumed that the U.S. had finally acknowledged that President Bashar al-Assad was not the key problem perpetuating the years-long war, but the US-led coalition strike on Syrian troops has apparently proved them wrong. “Present in this hall today are representatives of governments that have ignored, facilitated, funded, participated in or even planned and carried out atrocities inflicted by all sides of the Syria conflict against Syrian civilians”.
The road must become a demilitarized zone for aid to be transported along it, meaning both Syrian government troops and the rebels have to pull back.
The politburo chief of one prominent Aleppo rebel group, Fastaqim, said the agreement had “practically failed and has ended”, adding that it remained to be seen if anything could be done “in theory” to save it.
The Syrian military statement placed the blame squarely on the rebel groups. Damascus refers to all armed opposition groups as terrorists.
Sirens wailed as ambulances zipped through the eastern rebel-held half of the divided city, the correspondent said, describing the bombardment as “non-stop”. “But the armed terrorist groups didn’t take it seriously and didn’t commit to any of its articles”, the military command statement said.
Meanwhile, a humanitarian aid convoy consisting of 40 trucks stocked with supplies for the embattled Syrian city of Aleppo is waiting at a special customs checkpoint at the Turkish border. Syrian state media said there were 32 violations by rebels on Sunday alone.
