US hosts New Zealand in exhibition on Oct 11 at RFK Stadium

The U.S. MNT makes its last push ahead of its would-be Final Round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying with a return to iconic RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on October 11 to face New Zealand. The friendly, scheduled for an 8 PM ET kickoff on ESPN networks and UniMás, marks the 24th time the USMNT will play at RFK, more than any other venue in the nation. The U.S. took 2-1 victories in both previous meetings, the first in the 1999 Confederations Cup in Mexico and again in 2003 in Richmond, Va.

The U.S.’ match against New Zealand would be its final tune-up for the Hexagonal, should the Americans progress to the final stage of 2018 World Cup qualifying as expected. The USMNT now sit in second place in Group C with games remaining against St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Sept. 2) and Trinidad and Tobago (Sept. 6).

The game will mark just the third time the US has played the five-time Oceania Football Association champions.

The match, announced Wednesday, will be four days after the Americans play Cuba in an exhibition at Havana.
