US House approves bill to repeal Affordable Care Act

Among the highlights of the House’s bill are the removal of the individual mandate and the return of power to the states to make important healthcare decisions.

The vote resulted in 217 Republican lawmakers backing the GOP healthcare bill. So they swallowed and signed on, giving their faltering party a briefly-famous victory – and counting on the Senate to deliver the kill.

There is no effort to include Democrats in the process as Republicans are intent on ramming any legislation through on a simple majority vote.

GREENE: Those are dozens of Democrats singing na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, hey, hey, goodbye, the classic taunting song by Steam.

And, according to the analysis, if every Democrat in a tough district had voted against Obamacare, they might have been able to save their majority in the House. GREENE: So are you in a singing mood this morning? The Senate will probably look at some fixes, some efficiencies, but I don’t think the Senate will produce a bill that’s as extreme as what came out of the House.

“The bill started out bad and it actually got worse over time before it was passed”, Stacey Pogue from the left-leaning Center for Public Policy Priorities said. He said House Republicans “voted to take away health care from millions, strip Medicaid funding and wipe out pre-existing conditions”.

The Republicans’ health care plan would freeze Medicaid expansion, cutting off funds for states adding new enrollees starting in 2020. It keeps her out-of-pocket maximum at $3,500 a year and provides her coverage despite her pre-existing condition. “But basically we’re writing our own bill”, Sen. Here’s what he said. President Donald Trump has made repeal and replace a priority of his new administration. Before we go forward, let’s talk about what was accomplished in the House. Wasn’t it unbelievable? So we don’t have to say it again. Pelosi bragged that “we handed President Trump a resounding defeat”. “I can also assure you my staff did”, he said. So we’re not going to allow the promises to be broken.

TRUMP: “They’re going to be taken care of”.

Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Chairman Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., head the committees that oversee the law. We should have hearings about the CBO score. Conversely, had Tuesday-Group types abandoned TrumpCare II in the House, they would have felt white heat – from Team Trump, House leaders, and others poised to punish infidelity.

Wallace pushed back gently: “Yeah, listen, in fairness, ObamaCare wasn’t that popular either until Republicans started talking about taking it away.once people have something, it’s always going to be an impossible mission to then take it from them. But it would be unfair to the Republicans and unfair to simply sort of presume that ObamaCare was ideal”.

The House bill would end the Obama law’s fines on people who don’t purchase policies and erase its taxes on health industry businesses and higher-earning people. High-risk pools could fill up fast with patients who have a lapse in coverage.

The bill passed by the House would allow states to opt out of the essential benefits requirements, which means that insurers might once again refuse to cover treatment for mental health and addiction.

A Democratic National Committee aide told Business Insider that the organization saw a “significant uptick in online donations” on Thursday, while Vice reported that the DNC had its strongest month of fundraising in over a month. David, I got back from the campaign trail in November, and immediately, I’ve been confronted with a whole lot of people who are very, very afraid. In addition, out of the 14 million who now have health insurance because of the ACA, 11.8 million of them were dumped on Medicaid.

GREENE: You’ll give up some things if you need to. How can you call that “repeal” or “replace?”

KAINE: I am not – I am not pessimistic about finding a solution. “I had my staff read through the bill”. Senator, thanks as always.
