US House leader urges ‘pause’ in Syrian refugee program
As CNN reports, the newly ensconced Speaker of the House announced that he is creating a task force made up of the Republican chairmen from the Homeland Security, Armed Services, Intelligence, Appropriations, Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees to craft legislation concerning the refugee issue, and to look at security measures.

A few Republicans have said that only Syrian Christians should be eligible for asylum in the United States.
The U.S. Congress is attempting to stand against President Barack Obama’s refugee welcoming policy, stating the US needs to act fast before its too late to block the proposal.
“The last point I would make is that the world is a very risky place”.
Obama has said he wants the U.S.to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees in the fiscal year that began October 1. It would oblige the heads of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Department and the director of national intelligence to certify to Congress that each refugee “is not a threat to the security of the United States”. And I would change the way we tax ourselves internationally, so businesses can take their money and bring it back home so American businesses stay American businesses. “This should be: What do we need to do to keep our people safe?”
This is ridiculous. We all understand the Republican narrative is that President Obama isn’t doing anything, that his strategy to defeat ISIL is a mess, because this is the narrative that the base wants to hear, and it is the narrative that gives them the best chance to win elections, regardless of the actual facts. He says he wants to clearly differentiate GOP fiscal policy from that of the Democrats.
Tim Nokken, an associate professor of political science and congressional expert at Texas Tech University, speaks with Texas Tech Public Radio’s Abigail Arroyos about Paul Ryan’s sudden rise to Speaker of the House.
Several conservative Republicans said they’d support the House GOP bill but called it symbolic since Republicans lack the votes needed to override an Obama veto. “He’s said he’s going to leave any refugee legislation separate and apart from the omnibus”.
Democrats said they would oppose GOP efforts to use the legislation to demand ideological policy changes.
There seemed to be a lot of coverage of candidates and interested representatives besides Paul Ryan, including House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
“Let us as legislators rise above petty politics, rise above sectarian fears… the underlying layer of xenophobia”, Gutierrez said on the House floor.
Without a significant bipartisan vote and stepped up criticism from the White House about GOP legislation to rework the vetting system, the fight over the issue is already threatening to set up another shutdown showdown in December over the government funding bill. On riders, we are just beginning the process, so there is no yes or no on anything at this stage, he said.
Ryan’s office did not respond to the letter from Babin, but noted it is focused on moving a bill they believe is reasonable and strikes an important balance to pause the program, but not cancel it outright.
Consolidating and lowering personal and business tax rates necessitates the corresponding elimination of specific tax deductions, loopholes and credits that enjoy widespread support from many business groups and special interests.
“Even amongst the most pro-immigration wings of the Republican Party there is a sense that national security absolutely has to come first”, Republican Rep. Mick Mulvaney of SC said after leaving Tuesday’s GOP meeting.

“Until we can sort out the bad guys we must not be foolish”, Republican front-runner Ben Carson said in a news conference in Nevada, according to CNN. He just said he was going to veto our bill putting pause to the refugee program, I can’t imagine why he would do that…
