US Internet Speeds Improve, Still Lag Behind Other Countries
“We find this extremely suspicious and clearly a disservice to all of the ISPs that have relied on this site to demonstrate just how much faster the alternative broadband providers can be”. “For the skeptics among us, you’ll recognize that current speeds in the USA are still much slower than what many other countries receive”.

According to the latest report published by Ookla’s Speedtest, the average download speed through broadband has surpassed 50 megabits per second in the States. With the new 54.97 Mb/s average download speed of fixed broadband connections, USA crossed the half century mark for the very first time. But it says 50 Mbps is a small fraction of the speed offered from gigabit fiber optic internet. More than 8 million tests are completed each day, the company says. Bellevue, Wash. -based T-Mobile is faster than Verizon, Sprint and AT&T, according to Speedtest’s findings. But if upload speeds are crucial, then Verizon Fios is the clear choice, with upload speeds averaging 93.64 Mbps. The average upload speed for fixed broadband was 18.88 Mbps, which is a 51% increase from the previous year.
Download speeds are averaging 42 percent higher than a year ago. According to a recent Speedtest report, internet speeds for both mobile and fixed broadband users in the United States are increasing. That’s partly due to good news for the developing nations, like Kenya, where the average speed has climbed over 200 percent. Carriers are aggressively focusing on network capacity to combat the insatiable data usage of US mobile consumers; people are using mobile internet more and more. Upload speeds show how quickly we can upload and share documents or images. This number increases to 39% when looking at rural populations. With an upload speed of 93.64 Mb/s Verizon users can upload files faster than most of the U.S. netizens download speed.
The U.S. still lags from an global perspective, however, now ranking 20th in fixed broadband and 42nd in mobile internet performance globally.
Average upload speed of users of XFINITY’s connection is 15.26 Mb/s.

“With the growth of municipal and locally-focused fiber deployments, as well as network infrastructure investments from the big ISPs, the U.S.is likely to see continued performance gains in the coming year”, the Speedtest report stated.
