“According to the complaint, Harlem Suarez, a self-professed ISIL adherent, knowingly attempted to use a weapon of mass destruction – a backpack bomb – in the United States”, said Assistant Attorney General John Carlin. Though, Heavy.com found that according to an update on a Friend’s page, Suarez was at Bare Assets strip club in Key West and wrote, “I’m ready to make it rain while I’m blowing up”.

Former New Times writer Trevor Aronson authored a book about the Federal Bureau of Investigation using informants to essentially entrap suspected Islamic terrorists.

ISIL, also known as the Islamic State group or ISIS, has been connected to other domestic attacks, including a shooting in a Dallas suburb and a bomb plot involving the son of a Boston police captain.

According to the criminal complaint, Suarez came to the attention of the FBI in April because of his extremist rhetoric on Facebook. “Even so, we ask the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement”, said Special Agent in Charge George L. Piro of the FBI’s Miami Field Office.

Suarez was arrested Monday and the FBI took possession of the inert explosive device.

Last week, Suarez allegedly gave the informant two boxes of nails, a cell phone, a backpack and $100 to build a bomb.
