US Meets Goal of Admitting 10000 Syrian Refugees in a Year
“Thanks to careful coordination between the Departments of State, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services, we are able to announce that in the next 24 hours we will have met President Obama’s goal of resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees to the United States by the end of this fiscal year”, the USA ambassador to Jordan, Alice Wells, said Sunday.

Over the past year, the USA government has resettled Syrian refugees in dozens of states; MI and California have taken the most, with 570 and 500, respectively, according to Time.
“This demonstrates that where there’s a will, there’s a way”, Smyers continued. Rice didn’t mention the name of the refugee, or where he or she will be relocated. She said the USA has committed to working with the global community to increase funding for humanitarian assistance and double the number of refugees afforded the opportunity to resettle. The family will head to San Diego as part of a year-long program to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees in the United States.
None of the terror attacks in the US have been perpetrated by Syrian refugees.
“We will admit at least 85,000 refugees in total this year, including vulnerable individuals and families from Burma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, Iraq, Somalia, Ukraine, and many other countries”. Germany, the favored destination for many people fleeing the Middle East and Africa, instituted an open-door policy.
As of Sunday 9,902 Syrian refugees have been resettled in the USA in the period running from September 30 of a year ago through now.
10,000 Syrians later, how’s that pledge working out? Canada has resettled more than 30,000 Syrians since last November. Sweden and other Scandinavian countries that initially welcomed refugees have been trying for months to stem migration by rejecting asylum claims and deporting refugees.
According to the Refugee Processing Center, 297 Syrian refugees arrived in Maryland and 159 in Virginia from October 1, 2015 through today. “The achievement of the 10,000 target proves what is possible, and there remains an urgent need to further strengthen U.S. leadership in resettling refugee families – with appropriate vetting – fleeing violence and war”.
US admission of Syrian refugees has been a hot button issue in the 2016 race for the White House, with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warning that violent militants could enter the country posing as refugees.
