US Open 2016 Women’s Semifinals: Kerber vs. Wozniacki Preview, Predictions
Since finishing runner-up to Kerber in Stuttgart past year, the Dane has yet to make a final and has been to the quarterfinals or better at just five tournaments (including this tournament).

Ana Konjuh was not a year old when Serena Williams played her first U.S. Open match but both will be in the Arthur Ashe Stadium spotlight on Wednesday, with four gripping quarter-finals to take center stage at the year’s final grand slam.
Incredibly, this will be the first time she has been past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam since the 2014 U.S. Open Finals.
So imagine the little ripple of surprise Wozniacki caused the other day after she’d upset Keys – playing some tennis that was nearly as immaculate as her win over Sevastova – and actually bragged a little, saying, “I think it sucks for some of the other players to have to play me early” in tournaments.
Caroline Wozniacki showed no mercy to an injured Anastasija Sevastova as she hammered the Latvian 6-0, 6-2 to book her spot in the semi-finals of the US Open on Tuesday.
Wozniacki moves into Thursday’s semifinal round opposite Angelique Kerber, who could overtake Serena Williams for No. 1 in the world if she wins this tournament.
“For sure I always believe in myself no matter what, ” Wozniacki said. “I get another chance”. “But for now I’m just here to play this tournament”. “She looks fit, so it’s going to be a tough one”, said Wozniacki.
The 26-year-old Wozniacki refused to knock back her father’s opinion after reaching her first Grand Slam semi-final in two years. The Rams are not expected to set the league alight with the quality of their play, having posted nine straight losing seasons with just four winning campaigns during their 21 years in St. Louis and a cumulative 64-127-1 record.
After a series of injuries, including to her back, Sevastova found tennis “depressing”, and she left the sport in 2013. During the next changeover, she received a 10-minute injury timeout to wrap the ankle. Caroline and Kristina were down 1-4 in the first set as Sania-Barbora got an early break to jump to a 3-1 lead at the Grandstand Court here on Tuesday. Wozniacki remained warm, running down Sevastova’s serves and groundstrokes.
“I think I don’t want to really talk about that now”, Wozniacki told reporters after being quizzed about her dad’s comments.
“I kept serving well and made her run, ” Wozniacki said.

Wozniacki also endured what has been arguably the most turbulent stretch of her career as she picked up an ankle injury after Miami, forcing her out competition for most of the clay season and has since fallen out of the top 20, now sitting 74th, her lowest ranking in nearly 10 years. You know, it’s incredible what she’s achieved.
