Arthur Ashe Stadium’s retractable roof can be opened or closed in winds up to 45 kph (28 mph), the USTA said.

According to police, the girl was watching a practice session at Flushing Meadows Park on Saturday with her family when an unknown male approached her from behind, grabbed her wrist and demanded that she go with him.

Police said the girl was able to pull her arm free and kick the suspect before getting away. The man then fled in an unknown direction. The suspect is described as a man between the ages of 25-35, approximately 5’8″-5’11 and 200 pounds”.

The US Open got underway Monday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in NY with a new attraction, the retractable roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium, a feature that will allow play to continue when it rains.

The shocking attack came less than an hour after the annual kids’ show wrapped up inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium show court. This year, it was attended by tennis stars Venus Williams, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal, as well as music stars Flo Rida and Troye Sivan.
