US Polls: Hillary Clinton retakes lead over Trump
News reports that its NBC/WSJ national poll has increased the lead that Hillary Clinton enjoyed over Donald Trump. The Real Clear Politics average of national election polls (which does not include this McClatchy poll yet) has Clinton up 5.8 points based on polls taken over the past week.

According to the F&M poll, Clinton got a big boost among voters after the party’s convention in Philadelphia, with 36 percent saying they were much more likely to vote for her after the event.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, speaking to reporters after introducing Clinton at a campaign event in his home state of Nevada, said he is anxious Democrats could become overconfident. Sixty-five percent of voters say Clinton is qualified to be president, compared to just 43 percent that believe the same of Trump.
Clinton led Trump 41% to 31.6% with 14.2% of those surveyed undecided in the survey.
Even somebody with Donald Trump’s knack for PR will have a hard time portraying these poll numbers as terrific.
The poll is a turning point for Clinton after trailing behind Trump the previous week as he led by 3 points-48 percent to 45 percent. Phoenix-based OH Predictive Insights surveyed 996 likely voters on August 1 in a poll that included Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
The new WBUR poll represents the first look at the Granite State since both major parties completed their conventions, and comes amid Trump’s week-long battle with the family of a soldier killed in Iraq in 2004, which drew widespread condemnation from Republicans and Democrats.
According to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll of Pennsylvania, Clinton leads Trump 49 percent to 38 percent among likely voters. A CNN/ORC poll this week showed Clinton with a similar 9-point edge over Trump nationally. The margin of error is +/- 4 points.
Out of all these polls, the Pennsylvania poll is the most interesting to observers, considering the role the state plays in the Trump campaign strategy. His lowest marks were from African-Americans, where only one percent said they would vote for him.
A separate poll, conducted by NBC News/Wall Street Journal, shows Clinton has almost doubled her five-point advantage over Trump.
When third-party candidates are included, Clinton’s lead held strong.

Both candidates score net negative favorability ratings, though again, Clinton’s numbers are marginally better. Among independents, Clinton leads by a narrow 42%-40%. Trump is viewed unfavorably by 54% of respondents and favorably by 37%. She is far ahead with black voters, 93-2 percent, and with Latinos, 55-26 percent.
