US preparing fresh sanctions on Iran
Experts dealing with the Iranian nuclear file told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday that Iran’s shipment of more than 25,000 pounds of low-enriched uranium to Russian Federation on Monday is not very significant in the big picture.

The Guardian’s David Smith reports on the shipment, explaining the importance of low-enriched uranium and looking at the challenges still ahead.
Low-enriched uranium is suitable primarily to generate nuclear power and needs substantial further enrichment for use in the core of a nuclear warhead.
Kerry said the low-enriched uranium shipment would more than triple Iran’s “breakout time” of an estimated two-to-three months.
And he dubbed it “a significant step toward Iran meeting its commitment to have no more than 300 kilograms of low-enriched uranium by Implementation Day”.
The proposal comes as the administration is preparing to lift sanctions against Iran as part of a deal on its nuclear program as early as January.
Iran has long insisted it had no intention of building a nuclear bomb and a recent IAEA report found that it had conducted no weapons research since 2009.
By doing so Iran has now vastly depleted a stockpile of uranium that, were it enriched to higher purities, could have been used in developing a nuclear weapon, a goal the Islamic republic has denied pursuing.
Iran’s enemy Israel is believed to have an undeclared nuclear arsenal and richer Sunni Arab states like Saudi Arabia could spend billions in a bid to catch up derailing global non-proliferation efforts.
Senate Republicans want to block President Obama from lifting sanctions against Iran over lingering concerns about possible military dimensions of the country’s nuclear program.
“Rather than permanently blocking Iran’s nuclear weapons pathways, the deal opens a patient path to a nuclear weapon”, said Dubowitz.

Ali Akbar Salehi, who heads Iran’s atomic energy organisation, recently said that his country already received the uranium ore.
