US preparing missile sanctions against Iran
United States officials claim the new sanctions are in line with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear agreement, and the Treasury Department can impose new sanctions on Iran over its missile development.

That’s according to a recent Wall Street Journal article, which says the U.S.is looking to sanction almost 12 companies and individuals connected to Iran’s ballistic missile program.
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani on Thursday ordered to proceed the country’s missile programme “with high speed and seriously” and expand Iran’s missile capabilities, in response to the USA considered sanctions, state media reported.
The tests, which took place in October and November, violate a U.N. Security Council resolution that prohibits Iran from developing ballistic missiles. US banks would also freeze any U.S.-held assets, it said.
The Treasury Department is also poised to sanction five employees of Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, moves first reported by the Wall Street Journal, for their alleged involvement in the missile program.
Meanwhile, Norway says it has helped verify a shipment of 60 tonnes of raw uranium to Iran as part of an worldwide deal on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Iranian naval vessels conducted rocket tests last week near the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier.
Foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari earlier said any interventionist measure by the U.S. in respect of Iran’s missile program would be “unilateral, arbitrary and illegal”. “As repeatedly stated, nuclear weapons have no room in Iran’s defense doctrine, and therefore, the development and production of Iran’s ballistic missiles, which have never been created to carry nuclear warheads, will continue powerfully and firmly as a crucial and conventional tool for defending the country”.
However, he clarified that the country’s missile capability will be developed in strict accordance with the country’s military doctrine, which is based on the defense of national borders. The next steps, however, include “removing much of Iran’s uranium enrichment infrastructure, which we understand Iran is moving quickly to achieve”, Kerry’s statement said.

However, on Thursday, the newspaper said that there was no definitive timeline for when the sanctions would be imposed, citing USA officials.

“The publication of such false news under the present circumstances is akin to psychological warfare”, Sharif said. American and French ships were in the vicinity and the U.S. Central Command called the action “highly provocative”.
