Princeton University has a Bridge Year Program, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a Global Gap Year Fellowship Program, as The Washington Post points out.
“Harvard College encourages admitted students to defer enrollment for one year to travel, pursue a special project or activity, work, or spend time in another meaningful way”, the website for the university’s admissions office reads.
But there are also some key questions for families to keep in mind as students explore the possibility of taking off a year between high school and college. As it turns out, very few good studies have attempted to examine this, though recent years have seen the publication of a few papers investigating the academic outcome of the students who take gap years.
“Don’t go to college just to duplicate the same experience you had in high school”, he said.
“They develop more in that period of time than women do”, he said. She’s one of my best friends, and it’s going to be hard for me not to have her around all the time.

But this move is still “unusual”, according to Bruce Vinik, president of the Bethesda, Md. -based Vinik Educational Placement Services, “given how driven students are, at least in this area, to get to college, to graduate in four years and not to fall behind their friends and classmates”.
The night again brought together journalists and media moguls, Hollywood stars and politicians which was a great way for President Obama to end what is unarguably, a day of laughs in Washington. The student must not enrol in a program at another college that would grant that student a degree.

Knight said the financial strain can actually help students learn more about budgeting, adding “it was one of the highest aspects students recorded learning from their experiences”. Students who receive financial aid also need to make sure that a gap year would not affect that aid. Students who have all the qualifications that would predispose them to excel in college then self-select again, possibly giving themselves another leg up (even this self-selection might be another indication of higher maturity, and therefore increased likelihood of success).
