US President-elect starts the day with church and a tweet

Some of Friday’s protests will bring a carnival atmosphere, including a group of motorcyclists calling themselves Bikers for Trump, who will have to arrive at their parade route rally without their noisy bikes, and pro-marijuana activists who plan to hand out 4,200 joints to be lit up in violation of federal and local laws.

As Trump prepares to begin his presidency, protesters are mobilizing to demonstrate against it.

Tonight, the inaugural balls begin, with President Trump expected to attend, dance, and make remarks at two official events held on separate floors of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center as well as the Armed Services Ball, held at the National Building Museum.

Scientists and professors around the country had been rushing to download and rehost as much government science as was possible before the transition, based on a fear that Trump’s administration would neglect or outright delete government information, databases, and web applications about science.

The battles sometimes were intense, but I never felt like we were at war with the White House. I expect to feel this way for the next four years.

The Obamas will return later to Washington, where they have rented a home and plan to live until youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school. And Trump couldn’t see me.
