US presidential race tied, Clinton hurt by emails

Meanwhile, 62 percent of voters say Trump is not honest or trustworthy – and two-thirds of voters say he is not prepared for the presidency.

James Comey, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said last week that Clinton and her staff were “extremely careless” with sensitive information but recommended that the government not seek criminal charges against her.

Social media sentiment and the Real Clear Politics average of recent national polls tell a different story. Most of the 10 polls in that average have Clinton ahead by from 2 points to 6 points, but two have wildly different results. The Real Clear Politics polling average nationally shows Clinton with a lead of 3.1 percentage points. At least part of that was a big Bernie bump. In the most recent poll, 67 percent of respondents said the former NY senator is not honest and trustworthy, a five percentage point increase from last month. “You can’t just talk someone into trusting you”. Still, the former secretary of state still leads Trump in that category.

The poll found that voters view Trump and Clinton equally regarding their preparedness for the White House.

Hillary Clinton released a new campaign television ad Thursday titled “role models”, which asks Americans which candidate sets a better example for their children.

Trump now has the support of 80% of Republicans and 13% of Democrats.

The candidates are tied among younger voters.

The Rasmussen survey shows Trump with the largest lead in the general election matchup against Clinton since October.

The coalitions backing the candidates have remained largely unchanged from the primary race, with Clinton doing better among women and minority voters.

The AP-GfK Poll of 1,009 adults was conducted online July 7-11, using a sample drawn from GfK’s probability-based KnowledgePanel, which is created to be representative of the US population.

The original sample was drawn from respondents recruited by phone or mail survey methods. People selected for KnowledgePanel who didn’t have access to the Internet were provided access for free.

Interviews were conducted in both English and Spanish.

Some 60 percent of likely voters have an unfavourable view of Trump, compared with 58 percent on July 1.
