“We are attacking the last Daesh positions in district three”, a fighter loyal to the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), told AFP news agency on Saturday, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL.

ISIS has attacked oil fields in the North African country, but a number of experts who follow the terror group have pointed out that it does not have the ability to operate the handful of refineries that exist there. Tunisia fears that this figure would return after the IS defeat in Sirte.

The city s fall would be a huge setback to IS s efforts to expand its self-proclaimed “caliphate” beyond Syria and Iraq where the jihadists have also suffered losses.

Horchani criticized the lack of a regional strategy when it came to the ISIS foreign fighters from Libya.

The Tunisian official’s warning was echoed by his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian who also indicated that as a result of lack of global coordination, Tunisia and Egypt will find themselves in danger. The threats endanger all the region. He clarified that the terrorist it is risky and “we can not face them without a real cooperation between all of the neighboring countries in the region”.
