US says may have struck Syrian troops

Although fighting has diminished in the western part of the country where the civil war is taking place, no aid deliveries have yet begun because of what the United Nations has said is the government’s failure to guarantee the safety of the truck convoys. He says the planes came from the direction of the border with Iraq.

The source at the airport said the air strike had paved the way for Daesh fighters to overun the position at Jebel Tharda, the Observatory said.

IS has repeatedly attacked the government-held air base, which is an isolated enclave deep in extremist-held territory.

The statement calls it a “serious and blatant attack on Syria and its military” and “firm proof of the USA support of Daesh and other terrorist groups”. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday questioned the USA commitment to the shaky, week-old ceasefire, suggesting that Washington wasn’t prepared to break with “terrorist elements” battling Assad’s forces.

The U.S. military says it halted an air raid against IS in eastern Syria after it was informed by Russian Federation that it might have struck Syrian troops.

“It is not possible for the party (Russia) that wages war against a people to strive to achieve a truce, as it is also not possible for it to be a sponsor of this agreement while it bombs night and day, while on the other side, the other party – America – has the role of spectator”, he said. However, aid convoys have been unable to enter rebel-held parts of the northern city of Aleppo – a key component of the deal.

Russian Federation has accused Washington of failing to rein in the rebels, and on Saturday Mr Putin asked why the United States has insisted on not releasing a written copy of the agreement.

Officials have provided details of the agreement in press conferences, but have not released an official document, fuelling suspicions on both sides.

The coalition will review the strike and the circumstances surrounding it to see if any lessons can be learned, the statement said.

“In my opinion, this comes from the desire to keep the combat potential in fighting the legitimate government of Bashar Assad”.

A ceasefire deal went into effect Monday and calls for a halt to the violence between the Syrian regime and rebel forces, but it does not cover militant groups considered terrorists, such as ISIS and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as al Nusra Front.

Over the past week, the United States and Russia have exchanged increasingly hostile charges of non-compliance with the cease-fire agreement reached in Geneva last weekend by Secretary of State John F. Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The United States and Russian Federation agreed a deal on Syria last week, involving a ceasefire which came into effect on Monday, aid deliveries to besieged areas and eventual joint targeting of militant jihadist groups if the truce works out.

The U.N. has accused Assad’s government of obstructing aid access to Allepo. But there have been reports of violations, and the Russians have said the United States is not fulfilling its obligations.

“The situation in Syria is worsening”, Russian General Vladimir Savchenko said in a televised briefing earlier. No casualties were reported. He said 12 civilians had been killed.
