The phone conversation followed discussions on Syria between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Barack Obama in China earlier this week, the ministry said.

Obama described the talk with Putin as “candid, blunt and businesslike”.
Obama called the discussion on Syria “productive” about what a real cessation of hostilities would actually look like.
“What we are looking at is.is a clear path forward to a nationwide cessation of hostilities”, Toner said.
Obama met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for about 90 minutes Monday, largely discussing the possibility of a truce in Syria.
“Both US and Russian Federation are interested in fighting terrorism”, Putin said at the conference.
“Against all odds we have a certain rapprochement and understanding of what we might do to ease tensions in Syria and achieve mutually acceptable solutions”, TASS quoted Putin as saying. “Now whether that’s going to happen overnight or whether that’s going to happen over a period of days, that’s a question to be resolved”. The official would not be named discussing the private discussion, which also covered USA concerns over cybersecurity and the situation in Ukraine.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry are expected to meet on Thursday and possibly Friday for the fourth time within two weeks to discuss Syrian conflict resolution. They had been working to negotiate a plan that would have boosted military cooperation between the two nations in an effort to better target terrorists and prevent civilian deaths.
