We’ve seen them in Wisconsin where Gov. Walker defunded Planned Parenthood and left women across the state stranded with nowhere else to turn.

Democrats sounded a theme they have employed in recent elections, characterizing the GOP drive as an assault on health care for women.

This is also ironic, she says, because there has been a fairly broad bipartisan consensus in favor of using tissue from aborted fetuses in research for many years.

“Abortion is big business for Planned Parenthood and they don’t need taxpayer dollars to aid the expansion of their deadly empire”, Tobias said.

Republicans repeatedly brought up the grisly image of Planned Parenthood profiting from the sale of fetal body parts. Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards who, in a Monday evening press release, calls the bill “cruel and nonsensical” urges supporters to steel themselves for continued attacks.

Republicans who supported Ernst’s bill suggested that women can and should go to community health centers for their health needs instead of Planned Parenthood, but Democrats dismissed those claims as absurd and risky. Planned Parenthood, which provides reproductive health services as well as abortions, has been a frequent target of Republicans. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), have backed the push to defund Planned Parenthood in Congress, Clinton only targeted Walker, Bush, and Perry in her video.

Although S. 1881 was defeated, other congressional efforts in response to the furor over the undercover videos including an investigation of Planned Parenthood are still under development.

Despite that point, Democrats painted the vote as an attack on women’s healthcare, saying that the other health centers simply can’t absorb the number of patients Planned Parenthood assists.

According to the Washington Post, “more than a third of Planned Parenthood’s $1.3 billion revenue last year came from government sources”.

A bill to defund Planned Parenthood failed a procedural vote in the U.S. Senate today. Sen.

Moderate Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said he would back the Republican legislation. Planned Parenthood said the organization receives legal payment only for the cost of the procedure and requires a mother’s consent before the tissue is given to researchers. Under decades-old law, federal funds can’t be spent on abortions.

In an interview with THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Christie said he wasn’t buying it. “Republicans want to stop Planned Parenthood from killing babies in order to sell their body parts, and maybe Mrs. Clinton should directly answer that”, he said. Joni Ernst (R-IA) that would have prohibited federal funds from going to Planned Parenthood, as well as made those funds “available” to other entities that provide women’s health services. And Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted, “Look at all this outrage over a dead lion, but where is the outrage over the Planned Parenthood dead babies”.
