An Alpine High junior spoke to CNN to describe the moments of terror. She was a freshman at the school.

The suspect in Thursday’s shooting at Alpine High School that sent at least one person to the hospital in southwest Texas was female, KLST reported. Dodson says the 14-year-old later died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Names have not been released because both students are minors. The grandparents said she was a straight-A student and there were no indications of any problems.

Investigators have released little information about the alleged shooter, apart from her age and the fact that her family had moved to town approximately six months ago.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said earlier that he’s monitoring developments in the Alpine shooting and promised to provide support for law enforcement agencies investigating the matter.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. They said they dont believe there was a connection between the threats and the shooting at the high school. Dodson said someone called the sheriff’s office and said “Y’all better leave me alone” and made threats against the university, CBS7.com reports.

There are some reports of an injured Homeland Security Investigations officer, who was also taken to the hospital after being accidentally shot by a U.S. Marshal on the scene. The United States has always been plagued by shootings at schools and colleges, some of which have claimed dozens of lives.

Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson said the shooting “could’ve been much worse”, though he didn’t elaborate. According to International Business Times, fear of a bomb threat led students to also be evacuated.

Alpine police Chief Russell Scown said his department heard about 9 a.m. local time (10 a.m. ET) that students were running out of the school.
