US, South Korea Vow to Uphold UN Sanctions on North Korea

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Tuesday North Korea’s regular nuclear tests are a clear violation of the UN Security Council’s resolutions, and called on Pyongyang to stop provocative actions and return to the path of nuclear disarmament, Ban’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric told journalists.

“We very much favour a quick and firm reaction by the Security Council to this new provocation”, he said.

Malaysia, according to the ministry, urged North Korea to comply fully with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions with a view to maintaining regional and worldwide peace and security.

Asked whether China agreed more significant measures needed to be taken, permanent British representative to the United Nations, Matthew Rycroft, said: “We’re talking to all of our council colleagues”.

In spite of tough global sanctions, Pyongyang continues to defy the worldwide community’s calls for a halt to its weapons programme.

China’s UN Ambassador Liu Jieyi, reportedly annoyed that the latest missiles were fired during the G20 summit, told reporters as he left the meeting that the council would work on a press statement. But he didn’t mention any further council action. “So without getting ahead of the council we were also interested in increasing the consequences after this pattern of using these launches to advance the capabilities of the program”.

Mr. Obama said he still believes the prison is a “recruitment tool that clouds and sours” USA relations with other countries.

In January, North Korea said it had successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb, its fourth nuclear test, and vowed to build up its nuclear program as deterrence against potential aggression from the United States and its regional allies.
