On Saturday, Louisiana governor and Republican presidential candidate Bobby Jindal raised concerns about Syrian refugees who have entered the U.S.

The State Department tells WWL-TV that 14 Syrians have been resettled in Louisiana: one in Baton Rouge and the rest in New Orleans and suburban Kenner.

A few leaders say they either oppose taking in any Syrian refugees being relocated as part of a national program or asked that they be particularly scrutinized as potential security threats. A Syrian passport found near one of the attackers had passed through three countries known for a heavy influx of refugees and loose border controls, officials said, renewing fears that people with links to terrorists and Islamic militants could use the wave of mass migration in Europe as cover for crossing borders. Marco Rubio, another contender for the Republican presidential nomination, posed the problem of how to vet the refugees.

“The governor doesn’t believe the USA should accept additional Syrian refugees because security and safety issues can not be adequately addressed”. Obama has said he wants the United States to take in at least 10,000 refugees who are fleeing for their lives from war-torn Syria.

Houston has five organizations that will assist the refugees when they get here. Terrorism analyst Dr. Jeff Addicott of St. Mary’s University says we need to re-think this. He said prospective refugees go through a 13-step process with the government to ensure security before they are admitted. He said the federal government can’t perform “proper security checks” on Syrians. We can’t just shut our doors to those people. “In the end, that is the best way to respond to violence overseas by demonstrating prosperity at home”.
