US warns owners of Galaxy Note 7: Power down now

“Following the recall of the Galaxy Note 7 mobile device by Samsung due to safety concerns over its battery, AirAsia and AirAsia X would like to inform all guests that the usage and charging of the device onboard all our flights are prohibited with immediate effect until further notice”, it said.

Air-safety regulators in the USA urged passengers to avoid using the mobile phones on airliners. The airline also advised that the passenger will NOT be allowed to store the device in their checked luggage.

It was not clear in the statement by Samsung if the fixed models of the Note 7 would be offered in other areas on that same date.

Representative from Samsung said that customer safety is their priority even if the recall will cost them so much.

“We are asking users to power down their Galaxy Note7s and exchange them now”, said Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America.

Consumers can visit Samsung’s service centers to receive rental phones for temporary use.

Sales of the Note 7 were halted last week in 10 countries: the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, the UAE and Korea.

The commission also stated that fires “have occurred while charging and during normal use”. The CPSC is working with Samsung and is expected to issue a formal recall in the near future. The ministry has advised airlines and travelling public not to turn on or charge the said mobile during flights.

In a detrimental move for the company, the tech giant has been forced to recall the smartphones worldwide after several dozen of them caught fire.

But according to criticizers only recall of batteries is not good because Galaxy Note 7 smartphone sale has not been stopped by the Samsung. And on Friday not one, but two, federal agencies issued statements that amounted to “Get rid of your Galaxy Note 7”.
