USA election: Hillary Clinton releases her tax returns

Democrat Hillary Clinton’s lead over Trump in national polls has widened in recent days, while a growing number of fellow Republicans have declared they won’t support their own party’s nominee.

The Democratic presidential nominee sought to seize momentum as Republicans – including Trump – struck an nearly defeatist note about their Election Day chances. Clinton cited research from the research and credit-rating agency Moody’s that found that her plan would create more than 10 million jobs, while Trump’s would cause a loss of over 3 million.

Mr. Trump also continued to criticize Mrs. Clinton as unable to change course on the economy because she is beholden to donors.

“I can provide serious, steady leadership that can find common ground and build on it based on hard but respectful bargaining”, she said.

“I just wish the media and everyone else would get off of these controversies about who says what and how they say it, and get back to the issues that we have got to get the details from all the presidential candidates on”, such as Syrian refugees, the governor said.

“Fear”, Clinton said while briefly pausing. He has said he is unlikely to do so before the November 8 presidential election.

Clinton’s campaign has faced fresh questions over the release of emails suggesting donors to the Clinton Foundation sought special access to the State Department while she was secretary of state. Every major-party nominee since the late 1970s has released tax returns before Election Day.

The information, posted on the campaign website, shows that Ms Clinton paid a federal tax rate of 34.7 per cent and a local rate of 9 per cent in 2015. Her running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine and his wife will also release the last 10 years of their returns. The source spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the plans in advance.

Clinton’s appearance followed Trump’s own speech on the economy, which he delivered in MI on Monday. Not only is it contrary to tradition, as the campaign pointed out, but it is also contrary to the wishes of voters.

Clinton paid homage to Detroit’s auto history when she described her plan to raise the minimum wage.

Donald Trump plans to return to Wisconsin next week and once again the state’s top Republican leaders won’t be there. On Tuesday, when conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt tried to steer Trump toward explaining he really meant Obama’s Mideast policies created conditions that IS exploited, Trump wanted none of it. “I do”, Trump said, using another acronym for the extremist group.

At the evangelical summit in Orlando, Trump beseeched religious leaders to convince their followers to show up to vote for him, gently chiding evangelicals for failing to vote in large enough numbers for GOP nominee Mitt Romney in 2012.

The deduction “was panned from the left, the right, the center, because it transparently is designed for rich people like him”, the Democratic presidential nominee said at an event in MI.

“So yes, there is still a long road ahead, but MI is on the rise, and everyone is contributing”, she said.

Clinton’s campaign stepped up efforts to win over Republicans and independents, launching a group that aims to use a wave of almost 50 recent endorsements of Clinton by high-profile Republicans and independents to persuade voters to cross party lines.

“I don’t know. I will let you know on the ninth, on November 9th”, Trump replied.
