USA media hopes PM’s Pak trip will help peace talks
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise stop in Pakistan to meet his counterpart Nawaz Sharif has made quite a splash here, with the United States media hailing the significance of his “spontaneous personal diplomacy”.

In the first such visit in more than 10 years by any Indian prime minister, the move was seen by analysts as a step towards normalising ties between the two neighbours, which have fought three wars since Partition.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, Vadakkan said Modi can also address the issue of intolerance through this app.
Addressing a round-table interaction on Kashmir in the capital Islamabad, he, however, said that Pakistan would continue to support the Kashmir cause but wants a peaceful solution to the issue.
He said as the dialogue proceeds all issues would be discussed.
A source present in the meeting said the leaders of the nuclear-armed arch-rival nations “chatted like old friends” as they ate vegetarian food, with the Indian premier telling Sharif, “Your sincerity is beyond doubt”. PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who had held a meeting with Mr Modi during his recent visit to India where he went to attend a conference, underscored the need for improved ties between India and Pakistan.
While Indian media suggested Modi was the driving force behind the visit, a Pakistan official said it was Islamabad’s idea to arrange a meeting ahead of formal diplomatic talks set for January.
The opposition Congress has called Mr Madhav’s comments a “propaganda”.
In his 18 months in power Modi has shown huge confidence in his political skills, announcing economic policies himself and fronting a key state election campaign in Bihar – unsuccessfully – instead of fielding a candidate.
“There is no second opinion about the fact that in the second half or quarter of the century, Jammu and Kashmir is the greatest sufferer as far as terrorism is concerned and therefore any process which seeks to restore peace in the sub-continent and the region, will certainly have the most important benefit for Jammu and Kashmir”, said the Minister.
In Pakistan, the population has largely backed efforts to bring peace between the two countries. Here Mr Modi met mother of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the presence of his spouse Begum Kalsum Nawaz, daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz.

New Delhi, Dec 27 The Congress today took a jibe at the Prime Minister over his ‘Narendra Modi Mobile App’, saying it will at least help him stay connected with problems of the farmer, poor, minorities and dalits in the country as he is busy all the time travelling across the world.
